Creating in both Worlds

After designing for 3d printing I sometimes wonder where have I been all these years in Virtual Worlds!! But yeh I was mainly adoring creations of others and saw them growing. Now it is my time!! Finally 

Singularity is near!

An avatar is a virtual reflection of yourself. An ideal person and you are the one that controls it. For many years me and my avie had so much fun walking the virtual worlds. We saw both the future through beautifull creations and some are created as prototyping for real. Today I am onSIMVALLEY NL and John Silver pointed me out that he decorated the Ballroom sim. He told me about this new dancing machine were you can dance with other Avatars but now allso with an NPC. In here I can just choose my dancepartner... Amazing... I mean thinking of this.. in this virtual world we are living the future. Simulate what can be for real. I mean with the future of robotics the same will happen for real!! I can just choose what my partner will look like and dance with him the whole night through.. and the best is ..ON MY TERMS!! Wow ..Singularity is Near!! 

AdMiRe is Back!!

AdMiRe is back – in a new location and even better than ever –   12-14 September 2014

AdMiRe (Adorable Mixed Realities) is a chance to join SL musicians for a weekend of music, laughter and mayhem in a beautiful castle called De Berckt in Baarlo, Limburg, Netherlands.  Arrive on Friday 12 September around 3pm and enjoy the music-making that continues until the early hours of Sunday 14 September!

The theme of AdMiRe is “collaboration” – events and performances feature creativity, exploration and support especially between musicians some of whom have never played together before.  What’s more, large portions of the live music is simulcast into Second Life for the enjoyment of those unfortunate people unable to attend in person.

Musicians you may hear over the weekend include Kaycee Drayman & Wannahave Ferraris, Xander Nichting & Allegra3/Sandra, Inchino Melson, Tim Anadyr, Kleio Dagastino & Ian Bleac, Aminius Writer and many more.  Join now and your name could be added to this list!

WHERE IS IT?

The new venue is the castle De Berckt in Baarlo, province of Limburg in the Netherlands.  The castle used to be a monastery so there is a chapel. We are hiring this wonderful chapel venue with its own  bar and 20 bedrooms, varying from 1 bed to 4 beds.  We will ask you in the booking form to mention your preference.

The castle has a vast garden with plenty of possibilities for artists to work together on their upcoming performance.

Baarlo has 4 airfields surrounding it, two in the Netherlands (Eindhoven and Aken/Maastricht) and two in Germany.  If you come from abroad, the best airport to land is Düsseldorf. Rom there a train to Venlo (Netherlands) and from there bus 77, stop De Berckt. From the busstop it's a walk of about 1 kilometer to the castle. So, the castle is not in a place that can easily be reached by public transport. Please make appropriate travel plans (like being picked up at Venlo station).

Payment, in full, is due on August 15, 2014. However with your sending in your booking form, we ask you for a prepayment of € 50.= or the full amount of your package if that is less.  HOWEVER, as the bank account is not yet active, we ask you to withhold your payment until we tell you it is time to pay.

Shapeways World Meetup Day #SWmeetup: Making the Virtual Real

Join us Thursday, February 28th, for a virtual meet up as part of the+Shapeways World Meetup Day 2012. It will be hosted by +JoJa Dhara who along with +Jeroen Frans (Frans Charming) will be on site at the Shapeways Meetup in Amsterdam. Same Music but Two different worlds

Tonight two worlds got connected with music.

With help of January Lightfoot of 3DBerlin it was possible to have a party in Second Life Club Sound on New Berlin and on Cloudparty in Thoy's Club.

In both worlds I was dancing but listening to the same music as some one made music streaming possible in Cloudparty. Also thanks to Henmations we can now dance around the worlds.

This give more changes for the music world as Cloudparty is browser based and easy to acces for people that can not handle Second Life (yet).

Multitasken with Virtual Worlds

Sometimes life can not go as you want. Which means that you can not go to an event or place you would love to go and enjoy meeting people you know virtual. But then virtuality is going to mean a lot at that point. A pity you can not be there for real but Hurray for virtual worlds!!!!

The event I am talking about is AdMire . A yearly event of musicians in the virtual platform Second Life where they meet ..jam perform and have a great time with their fans meeting for real.
For the virtual fans that can not travel because of reasons streams will be provided to enjoy the performances.

It is a great party and really advice to go there if possible.
Normally I try but this year was I not be able to.

But ofcourse do not want to miss it. Even though it is hard to remain behind the computer whole time it was a funny sight yesterday...

Multitasking with virtual worlds...

On skype I was talking to the person behind strea.

With the Lumiya mobile viewer I logged myself in and listened to the clear streams through my mobile

and on Cloudparty I was there for an network happy hour to let them know about this event...

In meantime listening, chatting and looking from time to time the olympics. And if I need a drink or had to go to smallest room just take the mobile so nothing needs to be missed....

That is multitasking between virtual worlds and the power of connection... and the most important have the feeling you are still there and be part of it.....

Cloudparty

I am not gonna scream out this will be the next SL and say LindenLab be aware with this new world.
Most of us were born in this Virtual world called Second life and the succes concept is a headstart for other developers to create new 3d environments.

But yeh what a party this is for Virtual Worlds users. Specially as it is in your browser and no need for any downloads.
Another step for non virtual world users to understand what Virtual Worlds are about as in a socializing creative concept.

Just as Kitely you use the loggin of Facebook by go to "try it" at www.cloudpartytime.com

You will enter a beginners space and from there you be guided to follow a tutorial which easy to handle.
If you do your tasks you get a house on an Island for free.

All creation is done in MESH.

People are making allready the most createst designs.

Unfortunate I am not such a designer but walking around the world to see the beauty of creation.

For the first time in all these years I finally found a Home in the Virtual Worlds.
These last few weeks I guided a friend to create his own grid with the software of Open Sim used by DreamLandMetaverse It has been a great experience to set this grid up. Specially after a happy face of the owner.

Because of my effords I am alloud to own a sim called Suydersee attached to the sim Zwolle.
As I am living on the bottom of the Suydersee I am finally home. I used a fantasy file of Linda Kellie as I am a lazy builder or better to say I adore admire the creations that people are making.

With the soft music on my sim I am finally feeling at home. So strange as I been traveling a lot. Tried a lot of houses and owned sims on Second Life and other worlds. Still there was not a real comfort. Never the less I adore the places still and have some camping sites.
That I will visit regulary.
But on AviWereld I settled my home ;-)

Wandering around the Worlds again!

It has been awhile that a walked around the worlds. I was stuck in one virtual world and learned a great deal about Community Management. Building a bridge between the company and its residents/costumers. It has been a learning point that not allways they combine. But that is what the Community Manager is for.
Unfortunate I had to decide to choice for the Community as the company was not seeing them as they really are.

But it was a great experience and now I am back walking around the worlds.
I must say it is a great feeling of freedom after being so pressured from time to time and it is great I can do again what I loved the most. That is adore meeting people, connecting them and admiring so much their creation.
Today a friend send me a landmark of an exhibition "You Choose". This will only last for another day and it will go.
And yes good thought what will I choose ;-)
Deep in my heart I regret the desicion I was forced to make as I really loved to work with the community and make them more visible. But for time being I am going to go back what I loved the most that is bring the virtual community together in reallife.
This time not in the spring/sumemr time but in Autumn.
After that we will see what comes on my path. But my choose will not be at in this picture Sleep but Go Work!!

Call for Kirsten!!

It has been awhile since I blogged on my blog. Virtual Worlds can be time consuming especially inclusive you’re Physical Life.
But I have been involved with a new project and a new world called Avination.
It has been an interesting road to join Avination specially when you see developers come and go. Mainly because the feeling that Avination is just the same as worlds as Second life and yes it stabilizes enough to come close to it.
Of course in development mainly disagreements happen but I am glad that now in Avination is developing to a stable grid.
What I like most of Avination and their vision is not to be the best and let the world know but to stand and connect with other worlds.
That is my first vision when I came to Avination and liked. We can take our avatars name with us that we are so used to, can exchange valuta and with the technology from AlterWhere
friends in SL can call us up.


At this moment there is a project going on in Avination about the celebrations of Halloween. And it is beautiful for what a community can do. This project is about community designing and working together on a theme Sim. There is contest of decorating huge pumpkins and creators in Avination are allowed to have a shop on the area. Also and that is so nice there is a game called the Edge game made by a passionate resident.

But ok the title of this blog is not come to Avination (even I would suggest go and have a visit) but the Kirsten Viewer!



As I was making pictures of this beautiful sim I used the Kirsten. It surprises me always what all the features are of this viewer so you can make wonderful pictures. I definite understand Machinima makers why they love it so much. I was also proud to have Kirsten talking on MetaMeets and it is a pity as we all know that he and his partner Dawny had to make though decisions.



But have look at the photos of this project in Avination made with Kirsten we should not let down this viewer!! I have faith that Kirsten as he mentioned can develop it to something stronger.


Yes I admit I am using Kirsten only a few months now. Unfortunate the former releases my computer could not handle but now I have one that can handle my computer.
There for it make me stronger believe that the viewer can only become better and better.
Kirsten likes to be in depended to be available for most worlds. That I like about him. So investment is needed also from the other worlds to make this development going.
But also from the public. Kirsten himself really whished he could keep it for free to develop but the odds are against it. Event though it is normal that project like this if you want to make it more stronger and better you need to invest in better equipment / software. It is adorable enough to see with less he had he could make something wonderful.

Community Management: Difference of managing or rulling

In two weeks time I had encounters how easily personal with business can be mixed in a profession of a community manager.
To understand the story I divided to Business and Personal.
This is a story how it is easy to go out of hand because of personal private issues.

In this case a community manager should be having an elephant skin and be modest.
Most important to be-aware that you represent a client / a brand.

This following experience is set in the Virtual World Second Life where the balance easily can be broken.

Second Life just had its maintenance and as a co – worker I checked with my private avatar the closed Sims from various projects. Mainly because one of our clients warned that during these times bugs could be there. There was one project I would never check as it was personal but this day as a joke I did and could get on it with an avatar that should not be able to.

I panicked. I IMed a friend with “I am on it”. During that time I trusted this person so much as we had so much great fun together. We met each other in real life and yes we had same thoughts ideas. And admired this person for who this person was was.
The person knew I worked for this company and the person knew I was under NDA and never will tell projects items.

I took an alt to see if more could be on this project and the alt could. More panic as if this was the case people that should not be there could.
Quickly got hold of the person to close the project and finally they came after long wait.
Got kicked out and all was set back as it should.

I got a phone call that I was fired told the community what was on the project. This was informed by one of the community around these islands.
I replied that who ever mentioned this should be glad the project was seen by me and could make it quickly closed. It was nobody faults then only the bugs.
These words made sense and I was requested to stay out of SecondLife for couple of days to sort out.

2007 – 2009

In the years developed myself as a community manager Virtual Worlds. Created the event yearly in Europe about Virtual Worlds and helped a lot of clients to understand what Virtual Worlds are about and can be helpful as a tool.
My focus went from one virtual world platform to many and goal is to make more people understand outside the virtual worlds what this is about. Guide them to see if this can be a useful tool. Exploring the different successful projects and grids.
Connect people to the right persons.

Personal
2007 – 2009

After awhile my avatar was back in Second Life I told my story. Specially to people that wanted to know why I am on Second life and yes my favourite band Duran Duran brought me there. Specially after seeing on 11 September 2006 a program on the bcc about them and the fan waiting room on a sim called Avalon.
I am proud and honoured that this is written in a book called Second Lives from Tim Guest. In this book Nick Rhodes explains what his thoughts were and plans for the Duran Duran universe.
Some I told the story above as they could never understand why we broke sudden our friendship with this particular person. People I knew that can be trusted enough and needed to understand.
We got to learn that the project was given to someone from the band and it turned quiet.

Personal 15 june 2011

The buzz was for a long time around that the islands will be opened by the person I met years before.
In the experience over the year I was prepared and it did not much bother me. Only my worry was the way it was presented.
There was poor pr and official channels announcing that most of the old community started to be worried.
Gladly in a poor state the official channels started to buzz.
I got an invite on 15th june to have a look and was pleased of course to do so. For me a burden goes of my shoulder of being secret for what was on the islands.
In an hour I got an IM from a person from time ago.
The content became ugly after awhile as I was not interested or impressed about all kinds of words. I was accused of being jealous while at that point I could not be as so much was going on as an event was about to happen two days later.
And I told the person that jealousy is not the case just worried specially with the history of this person.

After awhile I have been told I was insane and this IM will be forwarded to who ever.
And got banned.

Business 15 june 2011

As a community manager myself you represent a brand. You are a bridge between your client and costumer.
Personal issues should not be in your way. There for it so surprising that the issues of the past got in the way and the person in question forgot that the argument ever happened should not be a burden.
Every costumer is holy. And in personal sense you should rise above all.
As a private person and costumer in this case a fan of this great band I had personally an issue against this person which is logical but there was no attack to the brand / band.
Only a private issue between this person and me. The conversation was not in the open done in private as it should be.

Questions are rising up.

Is this person that representing the brand afraid of the costumer? That should not be good in the profession.

Issues are easily solved as I suggested in the IM but then became accused of being insane.
Modesty is a virtue.

So why raise me from the community?

Personally I am not bothered as in 2007 a alt is easily made and can still enjoy the Duran Duran experience
But business wise it is easy to see in this encounter that you can be mixed up easily with emotions and personal issues while you are on the job.

There is a difference between managing a sim in a virtual world like Second Life or a forum or a company’s community or ruling it!

Finally! Waiting is over!

Finally my waiting is over! Best kept secret revealed. I am happy as it gives a burden away.
Sad is though it took an hour and an IM fight was made. Accused for being insane and jelous! For what I do not know.. Guess it is all the old fashioned SL drama again when some people do not know how to handle emotions.
Anyway I am glad waiting is over and hope we all will have fun with no drama.

Virtual Worlds are the future for creativity and co creation!
Also for a great creative band as Duran Duran.
Wish them all the fun in this world!

DDU?

These couple of days I got strange messages in world someone is going to let us come to a DDU Duran Duran Universe which seems to be islands of the great band Duran Duran that was planned in 2007.

I should jump up and scream FINALLY!!
Especially as this is the reason why I am in the wonderful virtual world of Second Life.

But unfortunate as people know me there is an awkward feeling. The message comes from a person that once pretended to be a friend but abused me and many others in second life.

Even at one point kept low profile and stayed away from the area during that time and its community to make sure the project does not come between the silly drama that was created by obsession.

We know the sims were made by a great branding company during that time and we had the most greatest fun with this company while they builded it up.
Then in 2007 they gave the project back to their clients and afterwards we did not hear anything.

The hype of Second Life went down and many brands left.

Still with a lot we did not lose the understanding of innovation and creation and as a social platform and moved on developing.
Me exploring around this virtual world and many other 3D solution platforms as to fill up the time of waiting.

With the exploration I understand that the project could be the first Virtual presence of a great group and its fan community but it was too early in a virtual world that was still developing.

Copy right issues maintenance issues and the fact that only 50 avatars could walk around.

The world is now more stable so a good thought to have it released now.

Only is it still from Duran Duran? As we did not see any official messages from Duran Duran itself through their own channels.

Are these islands maybe given to this person as not knowing what to do with it?
As it happened with many islands.

I notice more that fans and especially from around 2006 wondering these questions.

Nevertheless of course we will have a look despite it all as I am curious about the changes that are made.

For who ever now runs this project the true colours are known to some of us and we hope new ones never will find out the same way as some of us did.

Personally I am glad finally the project will reveal only not in the stage that I know but it will take a burden away from me as a best kept secret for many years.

The world keeps Watching

More powerfull as ever Twitter was going mad today as in Egypte the internet was taken down. Nothing can stop the world from knowing what is going on. The power of Social Media is showing today. Also in virtual worlds we can watch together the live coverage of all kinds of television stations like I watch through second life the news through Al Jazeera. They are the one that are covering from hours to minute what is going on.
Big Brother might be watching us but thanks to the power of Social Media and its users we are able to watch Big Brother.

A Virtual Meeting with a great Dutch artist Peter Vos

More then a half year ago I met an avatar named Karkassus Jigsaw. I met him because of the movie R U There

We saw each other in Amsterdam Premiere of the movie.

In SL we stayed in touch and around December I got a poster of him that soon a exhibition will be opened by an artist called Peter Vos.
I asked him if he had a press release and loved to promote the exhibition but honest I did not pay that much attention as I know now that this avatar and I were going through the same ordeal in RL.

There fore I left SL a little bit behind me.

Christmas passed away with a sorrow heart and I waved this old horrible year goodbye.

Slowly I retuned to the virtual world and yesterday Karkassus proudly mentioned that the exhibition will be opened that night. He gave me a new poster and LM.
Paying more attention to it I Googled Peter Vos and I thought SHAME on me!!

I understood much more now how this exhibition came about and also that in these past three months building it up we were doing quiet the same only in different ways.

I read about Peter Vos and seeing the exhibition in SL I started to recognize some of his beautiful drawings. His amazing drawings specially the ones that is made of a size of a former dutch coin Rijksdaalder.

On this picture of the Rijksdaalder drawings you see a house called Villa Inzicht.
This Villa is recreated and you can go bird watching as that was one of the topics of his drawings and favourite hobby.

Its an impressive exhibition and I hope it will remain so long that everyone will virtually meet this great artist Peter Vos.
I am honoured to have met him in this amazing virtual world through his son.

my 9/11

My 9/11 is a total different one, written according to Dutch standard.

On this day a battle was lost. A battle that was going on for 3 1/2 years. A battle, a fight I fought together with this beautiful wonderful loving life.

A life that thought me to be generous, not to complain and take life as it is. As much this life loved life so much...

In my Second Life there is a special place made for this life to remember..
